let the games begin

E3 is here and so are the new consoles. Released today, some of the pictures are pretty close to what was being rumoured. The picture accompanying this post shows all three units, not to scale, mind you, but just as a side by side comparison.

On the left we have the XBox 360, a powerhouse of a machine which will feature a removeable hard drive, standard DVD player, and wireless controllers. XBox Live will also be added straight from the box. And, this just in, it will play all current XBox titles. This machine should be out before Christmas 2005. There are already videos of games playing on it online.
In the middle is the Playstation 3, another machine boasting extremely high power. The machine does not look as stylish as its competitors, but under the skin it will house the much touted Cell processor. It's supposed to be a fast machine capable of producing very nice graphics. However, given that the two previous Playstations were prone to breaking, I do hope Sony had some other division build these. Again, backwards compatibility is a feature. Out in spring of 2006.
On the right is the Nintendo Revolution. About the size of three DVD cases, this machine will house a standard size slot load DVD player, but it will accept and play current GameCube games. As well, Nintendo has built in WiFi for online play, and will be offering a free service similar to XBox Live.

I can't wait to see them in action!Posted by Hello

I just found the actual PS3 photo.

Ugly is right. Their joystick is the ugliest thing I've seen in a while.
Sony should take a hint from Nintendo's playbook. Once upon a time, Nintendo used to use part of their system name on games, so you'd have "Super Mario World" on the Super Nintendo, or "Mario 64" on the N64.

Sony can have "Killzone:Prerendered" or "The Getaway:FMV Only!"

By the way, no Sony game yet has matched any of the E3 footage from when the PS2 was released. Haven't they learned?

Microsoft's press conference was better than their MTV special, where the games didn't look at all good.

Nintendo...well, what do you expect? They said they weren't going to show the Revolution, but they ended up showing the case. I really don't see the point of going crazy over Nintendogs, or Electroplankton. But at least they were playable GAMES, not prerenders.
