Even more movie madness!!!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - when Tim Burton announced that he would be remaking the David L. Wolper film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, many people were upset. They became even more upset when Burton announced Marilyn Manson was up for the lead role. That changed and Johnny Depp replaced Manson as Willy Wonka.

The result: the funniest film I have seen in a long time. Depp was absolutely perfect in the lead role, and the other characters were very well played. The Oompa Loompas were played by one man who was digitally cloned to play several roles. This film was more faithful to the Roald Dahl book than the first film, and there were not as many musical numbers. The musical numbers that were in the film were the ones involving the Oompa Loompas, and they were based on the songs in the book.

Should any director want to make a film based on a book, this is a film they should watch and take notes from. There have been many films based on books and they have fallen short of what the audience expected. This film gave the audience what they wanted, and that was to be entertained. There's enough humour in the film for adults that the children may not understand, and there's no bathroom humour like we find in just about any other film.

Most remakes are forgettable. This is one that must be experienced. *****

As for the previews, The Greatest Game Ever Played looks like another "underdog overcomes some problem and does everything right" blah blah blah film from Disney. Yeah, another golf film I don't need to see. Barnyard looks stupid. Worse than Spongebob, if that's even possible. The new Harry Potter looks like it will be an interesting one to see.

Unfortunately, Batman Begins is gone. It came, it went. No warning. Galaxy Cinemas gets movies in and then they're gone without much of a trace. They'll dump Batman Begins and bring in The Dukes of Hazzard or The Bad News Bears.

And I'm sorry, but Stiffler, Jackass Knoxville, and airhead Jessica are not the Dukes of Hazzard. No f'n way.
