Spam and the way I'm going to deal with it

My inbox is flooded with spam. There's not much I can do about it. I report it to Yahoo and they say they're dealing with it, but I continue to get tons of spam. Because I don't technically own the account, there isn't much I can do. And because I don't trust using Outlook Express, I can't use a spam blocker.

But my blog is different.

I put a lot of work into what I write. Okay, not a great deal now that I'm gainfully employed, but I still put in some decent thought when I write my thoughts out.

And then, the comments end up getting spammed.

I don't need viagra, or custom ring tones, or a survey to find out which is better: the XBox 360 or PS3 (and the XBox 360 wins out, by the way, since I'll be able to actually see one tomorrow).

But some people do.

So, here's my plan. Since everybody nowadays has a lawyer (even lawyers have lawyers), I'm going to do this nice and legal. From this moment on, from the moment I push the Publish button on the screen with the arrow cursor, anyone is allowed to spam here. Yes, anyone. *

* terms and conditions of being able to advertise on http://www.thedevilyouknow.blogspot.com
  1. No links or pictures related to the promotion, distribution, or publication of hate literature of any kind.
  2. No links to pornographic websites of any kind.
  3. No links to websites that incite violence of any kind, unless staged violence (ie. wrestling)
  4. No links to illegal websites of any kind.
  5. No links to websites that upload content (ie. spyware) to a computer without the knowledge or permission of the user of said computer.
  6. No links to pay as you go websites (dialers).
  7. Links will be altered or deleted by the webmaster as required. The size, colour, and placement of links will be at the webmasters discretion.
  8. If you are not in agreement with any of the above stated terms and conditions, do not send money and do not post links. It's that simple.
But here's the deal. For every piece of advertising you publish on my blog, that being http://thedevilyouknow.blogspot.com, there will be a payment made to me, by personal cheque or money order (and possibly PayPal) for the amount of $100.00 United States currency. What that $100.00 will get you is a lifetime (or at least for the lifetime of this blog) supply of advertising space on this blog. If you were to advertise in a newspaper, whether it's NOW magazine, the North Bay Nugget, or the Washington Post, you'd have to pay for that advertisement. Same as if you advertised on television. Those advertisements aren't free.

Neither are the ones on my blog.

Now, I realize that some people spam because they have to eat. Well, I have to eat too. And if you want to spam on my page, you have to be ready to pay up. Should someone spam without paying, their advertisement will be removed from the blog. IP address blocking can be put into effect should that be necessary.

Should you be interested in contacting me about advertising on my site, you can simply leave a message in the comments with an e-mail address where I can reach you.

I know what you're thinking: Is he serious?

You damn well bet I am.

You either pay, or go away. Your choice.
